The ultimate bane of all writer's existence. Sitting at your computer with your hands on the keyboard and a blank image on your head, as well as a blank page. Here are a few tips and activites that are good for dispelling this state of mind.

Writer's Block

Taking a Walk

Sometimes the routine enviornment where you write can get a bit boring. Relax, stretch, get outside and get some fresh air. No matter where you live, you can find inspiration anywhere.

In the city~ Walk along a busy street. Sit on a bench for a while. Watch people as they come and go. What they look like, how they act, how they speak, all the little things. It might spark some inspiration introducing a new character or how two characters will interact for the first time in the next chapter.

In the harbor~ Take some time to take in the whole scene of the ocean. The sight, smells, sounds, try to drown yourself in all the detail. The key to visualization in a scene is to incorporate all the senses. The salty tang of the air, the rough boardwalk, the hushed sloshing of the waves. It helps clear your mind to plan ahead in your story.

In the country~ Take a short walk through the woods. The sights and sounds of nature really help boost creativity, and calm your mind. Some of the causes of writer's block are stress, and the feel of nature helps take that off of your shoulders.

In the mountains~ Hiking is a good way to excersise your body and your mind. As you walk, visualize your story ahead. When you reach the top, take time to look around you and relax. Satisfaction helps you feel confident and strong in your writing, hurdling barriers like never before.
